USAID Supports Dong Nai Province to Strengthen Zoonotic Disease Prevention and Control

Rapid urbanization and other trends in the 21st century bring humans and animals into closer and more frequent contact, heightening the risk of disease transfer. Achieving global health security requires a ‘One Health’ approach that works across the human, animal, and environmental health interface, however, this multi-sectoral coordination has been limited at the subnational levels in Vietnam. In Dong Nai Province, USAID supported the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) and the Department of Health (DOH) to develop an annual joint plan on implementing prevention and control measures for zoonotic diseases in the province. The plan was approved and put into action on July 18.

With USAID support, subnational governments are strengthening coordination between departments and authorities across the human health and agriculture sectors for more effective prevention and control of zoonotic diseases.
